--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PowerPivot for SharePoint
PowerPivot for SharePoint adds shared services and infrastructure for loading, querying, and managing PowerPivot workbooks that you publish to a SharePoint 2010 server or farm. To create PowerPivot workbooks, you use PowerPivot for Excel.

PowerPivot for Excel
PowerPivot for Excel is an add-in to Excel 2010 that can be downloaded from the web and installed on client workstations. You use PowerPivot for Excel to assemble and create relationships in large amounts of data from different sources, and then use that data as the basis for PivotTables and other data visualization objects that support data analysis in Excel.

Multi-Server Administration and Data-Tier Application
The SQL Server Utility forms a central repository for performance data and management policies that tailor the operation of instances of the Database Engine that have been enrolled in the utility.

Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2008 R2:
The largest database supported by SQL Server Express has been increased from 4 GB to 10 GB.

Connecting to the Database Engine Using Extended Protection:
SQL Server now supports Extended Protection, using service binding and channel binding to help prevent an authentication relay attack. Also, see Extended Protection for Authentication with Reporting Services.

The Apple Magic Trackpad review

Mac OS X and iOS—which is a customized subset of Apple's desktop operating system—will merge.

That doesn't mean that your iMac will run like today's iPad, but its interface will change completely. It will be a lot simpler, and multitouch based. Gone will be the Finder, gone will be the windows. The traditional computer desktop will be replaced into something streamlined, but not less powerful. Perhaps for some pro users, there will be a mosaic view to watch several apps at the same time, but eventually Apple will move everyone to a modal-based interface.

On the desktop, apps won't lose its power: A professional user will be able to run Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, and Final Cut Pro. Like today, they will run at full screen, and users will switch using Exposé—which has been a success for power users and many consumers alike (and, I have no doubt, will come to the iPad version of iOS 4). Side by side, the desktop computers will also run the lightweight apps available for the iPhone and iPad (of course, no Photoshop on the iPad, but perhaps Photoshop Lite in iPad 3).

This won't happen in a day. It's a multistep process and the magic trackpad is the first step. Here's my prediction from now on:

• In a few months they will announce the Magic Trackpad as standard in the next iMac generation (optionally, people would be able to get the mouse).

• With multitouch everywhere, Apple will make possible to run iOS applications in Mac OS X 10.7. Developers will recompile for the x86, either creating fat binary apps that can be deployed in the iPhone, iPad and iMacs, or just have three versions like some do now for iPad and iPhone. This is easy for developers to do, since iOS is really a subset of Mac OS X and apps are completely isolated from hardware. The apps that depend on special features—like accelerator—will be adapted. And those Apple users with Magic Trackpads will run to buy them.

• In a couple of years, after iPad 3 and iPhone 6 start to take over MacBook sales in the consumer space, Apple will make the jump, making Mac OS X 10.8 fully multitouch driven, and selling this

Computer graphics go Holographic

A new technology is being developed at Kansai University in Osaka, and it could easily be the next wave for holograms. Granted, the CG images have to have a resolution of up to 128K x 64K.
I have included a video of it after the jump so you can see what it looks like. You will notice that the images are only in red for now, so it resembles a Virtual Boy. They are working on making them with different colors.

You realize what this means. Think of your favorite Pixar, PDI, or other cool CG movie fully rendered in 3D. Granted, it would be in monochromatic red if done now, and it would take years before you would have it, but the idea of the first holographic film excites me. Considering all these 2D films that have been made into 3D, just imagine how cool a CG movie would be in true holographic 3D.

One of the advantages of Ubuntu over Windows & Mac

In a world where most of the security vulnerabilities are coming from third-party applications, Windows and Mac machines are at significant risk because they run lots of these apps and those apps aren’t always updated automatically, which leaves the machines open to attacks.

Again, to be clear, both Microsoft and Apple have comprehensive updating systems for their software — both the OS as well as company apps that run on top of the OS. The problem is with the software (programs, extensions, and plug-ins) from other vendors and the inconsistent methods they use for updating their code to protect against known flaws.

With Ubuntu, there’s one comprehensive software updating system. This is possible because Ubuntu has a centralized repository of applications and the only third-party applications that make it into the main repository are the ones that have been tested by Canonical (the company that produces Ubuntu) and are proven to work with the OS. This means that the Ubuntu main repository doesn’t always have the very latest version of Firefox, for example, but you can be sure that the one it does have will typically install easy, work smoothly, and remain updated automatically.

There are also other repositories of applications that you can connect to with Ubuntu, but these are supported by the Ubuntu community or by commercial companies. Still, if you trust them and connect to them, then their updates are also automatically run through Ubuntu’s Update Manager (below). As a result, Ubuntu offers a much more centralized and effective way to keep computers up to date — especially if you stick mostly to the software in its main repository...

Tab Candy : an experimental feature for Firefox that reimagines tabbed browsing through tab groups and reorganization.

Tab Candy is launched via a small button to the right of your tabs, but it packs a lot of functionality.

* When you click on the Tab Candy button (or hit Option-Space on the Mac or Control-Space on Windows()), it will take you to a tab overview page that lets you scan all of your open tabs.

* Tab Candy lets you drag-and-drop tabs into related groups. You can even name the groups for easier tab management.

* When you open up a tab, Firefox() will only open up tabs that are part of its group. This means the end of the over-cluttered tab bar. You can switch your tab groups by going back to the Tab Candy overview page.

* Tab group sizes can be changed and groups can be rearragned so that important tabs such as your email and calendar are easy to find and scan.

Making online music easy, fun and social - Jango is all about that !!

Just type in an artist - and your first station starts playing right away. You'll get the music you want, along with similar favorites of Jango users who share your taste. Customizing your stations further is just as easy. Just add more artists and rate songs that you want to play more or less.
You can also tune in to other people's stations - and they can tune in to yours! In your player, you'll see who's listening to the same music as you, who's listening to your stations, and what your friends are playing.

You dont get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies:Mark Zuckerberg

The film, due out Oct. 1, is from director David Fincher ("Zodiac,'' "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") and is based on the 2009 book "The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding Of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal." Justin Timberlake portrays Sean Parker, Facebook's founding president and a co-founder of the original Napster.

Fonts on WEB

http://webfonts.fonts.com/
This site provides a little way for site designers to choose a preferred font family, backup choices, and finally a generic choice (serif, sans serif, and so on) if none of the fonts are available.
The no. of fonts available on systems is limited & downloadin fonts to your PC is a bit complicated job to do..
Monotype's Webfonts.fonts.com Web site offerins high-quality fonts that can be more easily served to site visitors. As a Web site developer, you would go to that site, create a project, pick the typefaces you want to use, and assign them to the CSS style sheet "selectors" that define different parts of your page. Fonts.com then creates a small HTML tag you add to the style sheet of your page. Visitors will then see the new fonts on your page...
Monotype Imaging says it works in all the popular browsers used on Windows and Mac PCs--Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, and Opera--with support for some Android devices coming......

One of the reasons print newspapers and magazines (and iPad apps, for that matter) tend to look better than their online counterparts is a better use of fonts. Making the Web look better as well is certainly a good step.

Make video films from stills...Its fun

I found a way to create a video using a program called Animoto. Using this app, you can create an animated video slide show from still photos you took with the iPhone camera. The program lets you create a short video with 10 pictures for free, or you can pay a reasonable fee to create longer videos with more pictures. You can even add royalty free music, and what you produce is a very slick video with a soundtrack.
The great thing about it is you can easily share videos with frenz via email or social networking sites like facebook, twitter or youtube...You just dont need to buy a new iPhone for capturing videos because this is really an app for it...
